Use of the cross-country ski trail system requires the purchase of a trail pass (December-March only), which can be done online or at the CXC office. City of Middleton residents receive a 50 percent discount by purchasing tickets at City Hall or online. Only cross-country skiing is allowed on the cross-country ski trail system. Throughout the winter season, ski rentals and lessons will be offered, catering to individuals of all skill levels.

Directions to the trailhead and parking: from Highway 14, go south to the end of Schwartz Road, take a right at the end of Schwartz Road to the CXC Outdoor Recreation and Sports Center access drive. The parking lot is located at the end of the access drive. No parking is allowed on the access drive. If parking lot is full, please park along Schwartz Road at the bottom and walk up.

With calm cool waters and a breathtaking view of the state Capitol, it’s a perfect place to spend a summer or early fall afternoon. Marshall Boats, Board & Boat Rentals in Middleton has everything you need to get on the water. Here’s a quick overview on what they offer.

Hours

Summer hours: 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily Memorial Weekend through Labor Day Weekend.

Falls hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.

Pontoon boat rentals

Spend an hour or the whole day on one of Marshall’s 12-person pontoon boats. They’ll provide gas and basic instruction to get you on the lake. Captains are also available.

Stand-up paddleboard rentals

Marshall has a board waiting for you. The calm waters of Mendota are ideal for this relaxing pastime.

Canoe and kayak rentals

Marshall has plenty of paddling rental options, including canoes, solo canoes, kayaks and double kayaks. Get fitted for a life jacket and you’ll be on your way!

Paddleboat rentals

A classic way to explore the lake is in a paddleboat. They are fun to use because they are so easy to operate–just pedal and go!

Lakeside patio

Marshall has a rooftop patio that’s the perfect place for lakeside relaxation. It’s reservable for groups and can accommodate more than 50 people.

Bauman Outdoor Aquatic Center features the latest in aquatic amenities, including a zero-depth pool entrance, an eight-lane competition pool and a diving well. Other attractions include two 134-foot run waterslides, interactive water play equipment, a sand playground and a concession area.

Cost to swim is $5.50 per person (swimming or non) and season passes are also available. Open swim is from 1-6 p.m. daily, starting June 9, 2023, through Aug. 20, 2023.

The Splash Pad is fully accessible and safe for any age. The Lakeview Splash Pad is located at 6300 Mendota Avenue, Middleton.

The Splash Pad is closed for the 2023 season and will reopen in late May 2024.

The facility is open daily from 8am-dusk, and is open seasonally. Check to see if the facility if open for use here. Safety gear is recommended and BMX bikes are prohibited.

The park has a 30-unit campground and a 5-unit boat camping area Each site has a 30-amp electrical hook-up. Services include bathroom and shower facilities, and a dump station. Mendota County Park also offers two shelter facilities, unsupervised swimming area with an accessible swimming ramp, volleyball courts, play equipment and a shallow launch for small boats, kayaks and canoes. This park, located a few miles southwest of Governor Nelson State Park, is also a designated lake access site from December through March.
